An industry in itself, human resources and recruitment features a number of roles worth looking into that can help establish one’s career

Comparable to finance and sales, human resources and recruitment is a similarly integral part of just about any business operation. Whether it is within major corporations, startups, and even social enterprises, schools, and government, HR and recruitment professionals are one of the common denominators across all these types of organizations.

With that said, while their responsibilities are similar no matter the type of company they are in, HR and recruitment is an industry in itself, and there are varying roles and levels to each. If you are considering establishing an HR and recruitment career, or are already in the midst of one and are looking to further advance your skills and take on more responsibilities, the following are some opportunities that are presently available which you may want to consider.

HR Intern

Like with a lot of other professions, an internship is an effective way to get a foot into the HR and recruitment industry, be it as a student about to earn your Psychology or Administrative degree, or as someone who has already graduated and is looking for their first job.

As previously mentioned, there are a number of roles in HR and recruitment, and an internship is a good way to learn about each and decide for yourself which one you want to specialize in or at least start your career in.

Internship positions are almost always available in most companies, although those in HR may not readily be, so it is important to look into which one you are applying to. Among companies presently searching are PT&T and Trend and Technologies.

HR Assistant

Something of an extension of an internship (but with the pay and benefits of a full-time employee), serving as an HR Assistant is also a good way to further learning and training on the job of HR and recruitment.

Like with most assistant roles, an HR Assistant is expected to, well, “assist” in a variety of HR and recruitment related tasks, while also having responsibilities specific to them. By being made available to help with just about every aspect of people management, servicing as an HR Assistant provides the extended opportunity to learn become further familiar with the different aspects of the industry.

Large companies are often the most hiring for the role, as they often have a high number of current employees and similarly significant recruitment needs, and assistants prove helpful to the primary HR professionals. These companies include SM Retail and P.J. Lhullier, among many major brands.

Recruitment Specialist

While HR and Recruitment professionals take on a number of responsibilities, the task of finding and hiring talent is often what they are most known for. In companies with extensive (and constant) hiring needs, are even Recruitment Specialists employed specifically to manage those requirements.

From assessing resumes, calling candidates to schedule interviews, to conducting those interviews and assessments, among others the responsibilities of Recruitment Specialists are extensive, and in many instances companies often hire more than one. In other cases, recruitment can even be the business itself, proof of how significant the practice is across all industries.

Among the notable companies presently hiring Recruitment Specialists are Philippines multimedia giant ABS-CBN, as well as the world’s largest and fastest growing provider of outsourced recruiting support to the US staffing industry, PSG Global Solutions, among others.

Staffing, Compensation, Data, and Systems Specialists

As already made mention of, there are plenty of specialized roles within HR and recruitment, the number of which also continues to expand as new management systems, similar software, and other business solutions emerge and are integrated into the industry.

So on top of traditional specialty roles like staffing, compensation and benefits, people management, to name a few, are others such as HR Data Analysis, Quality Assurance, Multimedia, and a bevy of others. Granted, some of these require a specific college degree and training certification of some sort, but all provide an opportunity to have a long and meaningful career in HR and Recruitment.

Jobs such as these are common in large companies with plenty of people, as it can be expected when there are many employees to both manage and hire. It is also typical in tech companies, who have people working in different offices or remotely. Among such companies are the Monde Nissin Corporation and Shopee Philippines.

Managerial and Supervisory HR Roles

Like with most jobs, there are also managerial and supervisory roles within HR and recruitment, and like with most of it, these either cover the industry in general or are also within the different specializations.

As HR and recruitment is a fixture in about every company in organization, opportunities open up (or are vacated) on an almost regular basis. The chance to learn new skills while taking on added responsibilities emerge fairly often, making it ideal to work and always be prepared to move up.

Among the major companies hiring are ZenRooms, who are looking for a new Head of Talent Acquisition, Titanium System Technologies, who are in search of a Payroll Manager, and SEAOIL Philippines, who are looking to expand their team with a new Learning and Development Manager.

Indeed, there are a significant number of career opportunities in HR and recruitment, especially after being able to gain the skills and experience needed in the field. For more HR and recruitment opportunities, visit Kalibrr today.
