The company participated in the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-helmed PISCON 2019, a conference aimed at bringing national awareness on the opportunities of online work/impact sourcing in rural areasOn July 16th and 17th, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), through its ICT Industry Development Bureau (IIDB), held the Third Philippine Impact Sourcing Conference (PISCON) at the Royce Hotel in Clark, Pampanga.

The event showcased Filipino talents, freelancing work, and online employment opportunities, as well as impact sourcing through a series of informative talks, networking sessions, and collaborative opportunities between government and the private sector. As many as 600 participants who came from various parts of the Philippines were in attendance for PISCON.

These included major platform companies, online professionals, members of various ICT councils, as well as representatives from local government units, major online payment portals, educational institutions, Information Technology–Business Process Management (IT-BPM) players and investors, and other relevant national government agencies, key stakeholders, and DICT partners.

Trending and Emerging Jobs in the Philippines

Among these participants was Kalibrr Technology Ventures. Eduardo Fuentebella, Kalibrr’s Head of Sales, shared some insight on jobs presently trending and emerging in the Philippines. Sharing research conducted by Kalibrr, Fuentebella discussed a lot of these jobs continue to seemingly be in I.T. and tech.

The most trending job continues to be that of a  Java Developer, which has led the trend for over a year now. This is followed by Front End Developer or Business Analyst, both of which were the second most popular in the past year, depending on the quarter.”He added, “For the emerging jobs, the Scrum Master is the most popular and fastest growing job followed by ETL Developer and AngularJS Developer.

The IT Support grows this year but the demand decreased in the third quarter of 2018.”Fuentebella also discussed how similar skill requirements in I.T. allows professionals to explore opportunities across the industry, and also make it a little easier for recruiters to look for talent.“These jobs have similar requirements which allow candidates with the needed skills to transfer from one job to another. This can also guide companies on how to look, source, and upskill employees.”

“Creating Inclusive Impact and Sustainability”

PISCON 2019 featured several guests and speakers who took part in the different panel discussions in the event. These included a celebration of achievements and victories as told by the individuals who worked to create an impact through Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS), the impact of the collaboration of Local Government Units and academic institutions as they equipping rural communities with the knowledge and skills prepares them for digital opportunities, and the impact of online freelancing jobs on the Philippine economy.

There were also smaller breakout sessions that expounded on the different aspects of online or freelance work. These discussions included how to find projects via online platforms, easy and effective payment solutions for freelancers, and the different skills assessments and certifications they can take, to name a few.Among the different companies and organizations which joined Kalibrr at PISCON 2019 were PLDT, EON/UnionBank, the United Nations – International Labour Organization, the Province of Pampanga, and IBPAP and IT-BPM sector associations, among others.
