Chemical Laboratory Analyst | Toril, Davao  

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the conduct of laboratory and field testing, analysis, and other processes related to plant chemistry following applicable policies, standard procedures, laws and regulations to support the safe, reliable, and compliant operations of the Plant. The position is also responsible for contributing assistance and providing recommendations in the smooth operations of the water and wastewater treatment plants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts sample testing and analysis of water and water effluent, coal receipts and feed, light fuel oil and other materials such as sand and limestone following established procedures and techniques in determination of chemical and/or physical qualities to set standards.
• Records, prepares and submits reports on completed water, coal and auxiliary material testing and analysis, ensuring accuracy of data and information.
• Reviews and evaluates laboratory methods and procedures and recommends operating guidelines to improve production quality and compliance.
• Conducts monitoring of chemical quality of the plant’s operating systems and prepares reports on results and recommendations, for information and appropriate action.
• Performs routine inspection, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of analytical laboratory equipment to ensure the quality of laboratory work.
• Notifies Supervisor of any problems observed and encountered on the equipment and/or instrumentation performance if it cannot be resolved by the incumbent of appropriate action.
• Prepares and submits reports on laboratory instrumentation and equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting, for reference and control.
• Complies with the laboratory management system for efficient and smooth operation of the laboratory.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Registered Chemist or Registered Chemical Engineer and Chemical Technician
• At least 2 years of working experience in power generation plant chemistry program or 4 years experience as an analyst in an industrial setting

Competencies:

• Knowledge of power plant operations
• Broad knowledge of power plant chemistry especially with respect to raw water, cooling tower water, demineralizer, boiler/steam systems and coal.
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of general laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
• Knowledge of use and application of universally accepted laboratory methods and procedures, specifically for the analysis of water and wastewater and coal.
• Working knowledge of laboratory safety policies and practices.
• Working knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, especially pertaining to waste handling and disposal, and hazardous materials transportation
• Ability to analyze and interpret data
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing
• Computer skills with knowledge of computer applications: MS Office or similar software
