Job Description

Under the supervision of the Head of the Campus Ministry Office of the Ateneo Junior High School, the Campus Minister is in charge of developing and carrying out spiritual formation programs and activities for the Grade 7 and Grade 9 students, faculty and non-teaching staff of the Junior High School.

This is in support of the University’s goal of forming a strong Catholic and Ignatian identity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Administrative Support

  • Serves as over-all coordinator and facilitator of the JHS Recollections/Retreats for students and non-teaching staff
  • Coordinates with the Recollection/Retreat Team (Class Moderator, Class Officer, Parents and Guidance Counselor)
  • Handles request for and liquidation of recollection/retreat funds
  • Oversees the use and maintenance of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Chapel, Favre Hall, Prayer Rooms, sacred objects and equipment in the chapel and prayer rooms
  • Keeps inventory of the sacred objects and supplies at the Kostka Chapel

2. Spiritual Needs and Resources

  • Prepares and organizes the confession schedule of the JHS students in coordination with the CLE Subject Area Coordinator
  • Sets up the orientation and subsequent follow-up meetings with each member of the Recollection/Retreat Team to explain their specific roles in the recollection/ retreat module

3. Spiritual Counselor and Minister

  • Serves as server, lay minister or commentator during the Mass
  • Substitutes for any of the retreat or recollection team members when absent
  • May lead special projects as requested by the Head CMO/ Coordinator such as, becoming a student organization moderator and other CMO special project/s, if needed

4. Logistical Support and Coordination

  • 4.1 Students
    • Makes all the necessary logistical preparations for the recollection/retreats, including preparing PowerPoint presentations for the recollection/retreat modules
    • Prepares and practices the students (sharers, commentator, readers, etc.) for the recollection/retreat Mass
    • Collects the evaluation sheets of recollections/retreats and gives it to the Testing and Research Office (TRO) for interpretation. Evaluates and revises the recollection/retreat module, if necessary
  • 4.2 Junior High Non-Teaching Staff
    • Facilitates activities that cater to the spiritual formation of the staff
    • Makes all the necessary preparation and coordination for the monthly staff spiritual hour
  • 4.3 Liturgical celebration of the school – community
    • Helps plan and organize daily masses and school-wide liturgical celebrations
    • Coordinates with point persons (Cluster Heads, Class Moderators, Subject Area Coordinators, and Heads of different student organizations) concerned in sponsored Masses
    • Follows-up Office Assistant regarding the Main presider of the Mass
    • Sets-up and sets-down liturgical books, candles, vessels and other materials needed for the Mass

5. Performs other tasks that may be assigned by the Head of the Campus Ministry Office, or authorized representatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • College graduate/graduate student preferably with a degree is Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Education or Theology
  • With 12 MA units in Pastoral Ministry, Theology or any related course
  • With one year experience in youth formation work and retreat/recollection facilitation
  • Background or training related to Ignatian Spirituality, Campus Ministry or Youth Ministry
  • Retreat Experience (3,5 or 8 days)
  • Demonstrates skills in

  • Listening, Pastoral Counseling and the Ministry of Referral
  • Organizing, coordinating and Budgeting
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer Literacy
  • Communication (written and oral)
  • Consultation
