Job Description

Purpose:

  • Assess the ships condition prior to and/or immediately upon taking into management. Based on this assessment, both short term (immediate need) and long term maintenance plans shall be made, resources allocated, and the execution of these plans ensured in a timely and cost effective manner. This will include provision for both minor and major repairs, dry docking, storing of the vessel and all associated logistics as may be necessary. Thus by effective preventive maintenance, and guiding the ship’s staff closely in times of contingent repairs, the department shall strive for trouble free and smooth operation of the vessel. The aim always shall be to keep the vessel trading with minimum or nil downtime and maximize benefit to customers.

Responsibilities and tasks

The Technical Superintendent is responsible for the Day-to-Day monitoring of Ship Operations to ensure that they are operated in accordance with the “SHEQ” guidelines and Best Industry Practice.

  • Establishing an Annual Operational Budget and Plan for Ship Attendance and its monitoring throughout the year.
  • Establishing a Preventive Maintenance Plan under SMMS, (or other PMS systems) and the conduct of the maintenance.
  • Responding to day to day maintenance requirements of the ships, and conduct of major overhauls and dry dockings and repairs whenever necessary.
  • Order Stores and spare and provide logistical support to the ship;
  • Implementing Flag State and Classification requirements, their monitoring and ensuring Inspections/ Surveys are carried our in a timely manner.
  • Ensure vessels are prepared for PSC inspections, monitor and respond to PSC reports
  • Liaisons with Fleet Personnel department to ensure vessels are provided crew as per the vessel, and trade requirements.
  • Encourage crew to adhere to Safe working practices, and compliance with Marpol and other statutory rules and regulations, and provide adequate resources for these purposes.
  • Assist CSO to ensure adequately security levels and interface is maintained.
  • Liaisons with relevant departments and authorities for Safety, Insurance and QMS matters including performance of External and Internal audits.
  • Ensure vessel meets Owners and Charterers; technical, operational and commercial requirements for the trade and operates to their requirements.
  • Assist the Casualty Contingency team in case of an emergency.
  • Implement corrective actions as and when necessary and verify their effectiveness.
  • Guide the vessel in MOC process for applicable changes
  • Prepare reports to owners, other external customers and internal customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Previous experience as Technical Superintendent or Seagoing Chief Engineer

Höegh Autoliners Company Profile Höegh Autoliners is a leading global provider of transportation and logistics services within the Roll-on Roll-off (Ro/Ro) segment. Organisation Our corporate head office is located in Oslo, Norway but we employ approximately 400 people from 28 nationalities who are working out of 16 offices around the globe. We are organised in four geographical regions, each with its own Regional Head Office. In addition we employ 1200 seafarers, mainly from the Philippines and China, through our ship management company Höegh Technical Management Inc.

Our vessels Höegh Autoliners operates a fleet of owned and long-term charter PCTCs with capacity ranging from 2 300 to 8 500 ceu. Over the last five years our fleet has undergone a renewal, with many old vessels being phased out and new being built or chartered in. Today the average age of our fleet is around 10 years.

The World’s largest PCTC In 2015, we took delivery of two in a series of six Post-Panamax vessels in the New Horizon design. The remaining four will be delivered during 2016. The New Horizon is the world’s largest PCTC with 14 decks, covering an area of 71 400 m² - the same area as 10 soccer fields - and a carrying capacity of 8 500 ceu. With a 375 tonne capacity stern ramp, 22 tonne capacity side ramp, 6.5 meter height on the main deck and five hoistable decks, this new design provides more operational flexibility. Enhanced flexibility, larger capacity and optimised hull and energy efficiency reduce the vessel’s environmental impact and ensure a better service to our customers.
