Job Description
- Implement and maintain content management systems, including installation, configuration, theme and plug-in integration, and ongoing support of departmental liaisons using existing platforms and tools.
- Support the development and maintenance of web applications, including building search indexes, integrating web designs, and building small collection websites.
- Monitor and report on website traffic and performance. Perform periodic website audits.
- Perform maintenance duties, such as scripting, adding new content to collections, rebuilding indexes, and maintaining templates and supporting pages.
- Update web pages to ensure site accuracy and currency; perform light web design.
- Interface with existing database, using existing data and discovery tools user interfaces, and tools for specific discovery and delivery environments, such as library online catalogs, to access data stored on web services.
- Produce online content, animated gifs, static buttons, and email and landing pages under the direction of senior web developer and content manager.
- Perform development and maintenance programming for web pages and web applications. Build small applications.
- Evaluate and support user needs, and recommend solutions within existing platforms; maintain and develop documentation and how-to guides for customers.
- Perform selected website administration duties for existing clients. Ensure web server and site technical performance. Perform light troubleshooting and first line support.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be an Information Technology, Multimedia Arts, Computer Science, and related courses;
- Must have at least 2 years experience in related field;
- Mobile app development experience strongly desired (iOS/Android), in particular using fluid frameworks, e.g. React Native
- Current knowledge of latest software and design standards.
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications.
- Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
- Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures.
- Basic knowledge of software engineering principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop web content management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to develop complex websites and web applications using open source tools, languages, libraries, and current standards-compliant code.
- Knowledge of web content development and cloud services.
- Expert level knowledge of front-end development languages and ability to hand code HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Solid understanding of web standards and usability methods.
- Expert knowledge of content management systems, such as Drupal, including the ability to perform standard installation and configuration.
- Demonstrated ability to write, compile, test, debug, and deploy software.
- Knowledge of web analytics tools and related analyses.
- Ability to design and manage relational databases.
- Ability to design and implement web services.
- Ability to interact positively with and build consensus among a diverse group of colleagues, clients, and senior leadership.
- Frameworks: Ruby on Rails, SCSS, Coffeescript, Node.js (intermediate - advanced)
- Experience with full-stack JavaScript setups (using Node.js)
- Deployment: AWS/Azure, Capistrano (intermediate)
- Databases: SQL (mySQL, postgres) (beginner - intermediate)
- Frontend: Javascript/HTML/CSS/jQuery (intermediate - advanced)
- Linux familiarity (beginner - intermediate)
- Scripting experience (especially for imports/exports, network calls) (Ruby, Python) (beginner - intermediate)
- Basic knowledge of information security, design principles, MVC, code standards
