The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers. In most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities. In all assignments, UN Volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community. This will make the time they spend as UN Volunteers even more rewarding and productive.

Assignment Details
Organizational Context & Project Description
The world youth population is around 1.8 billion out of which a major proportion close to 50% live in the Asia-Pacific region. The 2018 United Nations Youth Strategy “Youth 2030” recognizes young people as partners and leaders in sustainable development and peacebuilding. During the launch, the UN Secretary-General identified youth as a priority and highlighted the importance in addressing the needs of the largest generation of young people the world has ever known. In both the UNDP‘s Youth Strategy “Empowered Youth, Sustainable Future” and the UNV’s Youth Volunteering Strategy (2014-2017), “Empowering Youth through Volunteerism”, the areas of civic engagement, youth empowerment, and social innovation are well reflected and offer key entry points for systematic and coordinated action to support youth within an increasingly complex development context for their social, economic and political development.
UNDP and its partners believe that youth can make a real and positive difference and create their own opportunities by engaging with these challenges head on through social entrepreneurship and innovation, exploring dynamic approaches to mobilizing their peers and communities and creating adaptive solutions to addressing youth economic marginalization. Against this backdrop, UNDP Indonesia is working with the UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub to implement the regional Youth Co:Lab programme that empowers young social entrepreneurs and aims to enhance social entrepreneurship ecosystems in Indonesia and across the region.
