Job Description

Summary of key responsibilities:

  • Support to implementation of ICT systems
  • Effective functioning of the hardware and software packages
  • Support to networks administration
  • Provision of administrative support

Supports implementation of ICT management systems and strategies, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Compliance with corporate information management and technology standards, guidelines and procedures for the technology environment
  • Provision of inputs to the result-oriented Unit workplan.

Supports effective functioning of the Country Office (CO) hardware and software packages, focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Support in the installation of commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades
  • Support to users in backing up and restoring their files, as well as in virus detection, removal and prevention.

Supports networks administration, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Response to user needs and questions regarding network access.
  • Assistance in backup and restoration procedures for local drives. Maintenance of backup logs. Assistance in off-site storage of backups.

Provides administrative support, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of software and hardware.
  • Maintenance of a library of ICT related reference materials.
  • Maintenance of the inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts
  • Provision of ICT support to key events.
  • Maintenance of Unit’s files, logs
  • Preparation of routine correspondence, faxes, memoranda and reports in accordance with CO Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Extracting, inputting, copying and filing data from various sources.

Minimum Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications are required:

  • Enrolment in a graduate-level degree programme in relevant studies e.g.IT, Computer and Technology Studies, etc
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation
  • Certification or training in business software (Microsoft Office) and web-based applications, ICDL certification, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) is desirable but not required
  • Knowledge of - or proven interest in – ICT management
  • Proficiency in English
  • Excellent in standard computer software applications;
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UN, and of UNDP in particular, and have a personal commitment to UNDP's Statement of Purpose and to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views
  • Good communication skills; speaking, writing and editing skills in English
  • Demonstrable skills in analytical thinking, communication, and research
  • An interest in global mobility; adaptability to varied physical and other environments; a desire to work with and gain the confidence and respect of people with different language, national and cultural background

Financial Issues

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.

All costs connected with an intern's participation in the Programme must be borne by:

a) the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students;

b) the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), visas, accommodation, etc.

General Issues

  • Exceptionally be approved for a maximum total duration of 9 months, if the intern can demonstrate it will grant him/her an educational credit for a course
