UNITELLER FINANCIAL SERVICES, INC.
Background and History
The concept for the Company began in 1994 when UniTeller Financial Services, Inc. (UFS) was established to service licensed money transmitters and banks sending money for immigrants back to their families in their home countries. UFS was created to fill the demand for a faster and more efficient payment system for the high volume of money transmissions abroad.
The Company’s initial growth and success were based on the following factors:
UniTeller invested a significant portion of its internally generated funds into improvement of its operating database, resulting in an efficient and reliable delivery of service; and
The Company established a strong foundation for an extensive network of paying agents in various foreign countries.
UniTeller continued to develop its system capabilities and processing capacity, resulting in expanded services and speed improvements. A sophisticated toll free “Call Center” was also created, which offers customers direct access to “real-time” information regarding their transactions. A comprehensive surveillance procedure was introduced to monitor paying agents’ performance and compliance with Bank Secrecy Act regulation.
During the third quarter of 1996, the Cabina direct-line telephone service was introduced. It permitted transaction information to be collected at the Point of Sale by having the customer speak directly with a UniTeller operator at the Company’s Call Center in New Jersey. With the Cabina service, the selling agent would receive the funds from the customer and give him/her a receipt generated by the Company’s POS terminal. By this process, the Company was assured of collecting accurate and complete transaction information at its central electronic service center.
Early in 1998, the daily credit limits that are assigned to each one of the Company’s selling agents were programmed into the systems. This daily credit limit monitoring system has enhanced the Company’s administrative and risk control capabilities.
Early in 1999, the Company successfully introduced its Money Transfer Card. This was a significant and unique advancement in the processing of money remissions. It expedited the transaction at both the selling agent and the paying agent locations.
In April 1999, UniTeller Filipino, Inc. began operations. From that date forward, the Company has promoted its Philippine services through independent agents throughout the entire United States. The Company also created a subsidiary in the Philippines with its own manager and staff to oversee its Philippine paying agent network and the transmissions being sent to the Philippines.
In 2006, the Company contracts with Banorte USA Corporation, a Bank Holding Company, which is owned by the fourth largest bank, Banco Mercantil del Norte, in Mexico. On January 18, 2007 the acquisition by Banorte USA Corporation is completed. For a more complete background on either company, please visit uniteller.com and banorte.com on the Internet.
Following the acquisition, Alberto Guerra Rodriguez, who is the Executive Director of US Operations for Banorte, became Chief Executive Officer and a Director of UniTeller Financial Services, Inc. In addition, Edgar Maldonado de los Reyes, another Director of US Operations for Banorte, became Vice President and Treasurer of UniTeller Financial Services, Inc. Both these gentlemen work with senior management at the UniTeller companies to coordinate the operations of UniTeller Financial Services, Inc.
