Senior Backend Engineer Associate  

Role Overview
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help maintain and improve the reliability of Kalibrr Indonesia’s platform. In this role, you’ll work on backend services, distributed systems, and data infrastructure that power core product features.

You’ll be working with Python-based services, asynchronous workers, and data pipelines involving Apache Kafka, Elasticsearch, and PostgreSQL. The work includes improving system stability, optimizing backend processes, and helping the team gradually modernize parts of the platform.

This role is a great fit for engineers who enjoy debugging real production systems, improving large codebases, and working with backend infrastructure at scale.

Key Responsibilities
1. Backend Services Development

• Build and maintain backend services using Python.
• Design and improve REST APIs used by internal and external systems.
• Help improve code quality, maintainability, and test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions with the team.

2. Distributed Systems & Data Pipelines

• Work with event-driven systems powered by Apache Kafka.
• Support asynchronous workers and backend processes handling large-scale data operations.
• Troubleshoot and improve data pipelines and background processing systems.
• Ensure services interact reliably across the platform.

3. Search & Data Systems

• Support search and indexing infrastructure powered by Elasticsearch.
• Work with PostgreSQL databases to troubleshoot queries and improve performance.
• Help improve data structures and resolve data inconsistencies.
• Support backend jobs and data-related operations.

4. Platform Reliability & Production Support

• Help investigate and resolve production incidents or performance issues.
• Debug problems related to workers, streaming pipelines, or distributed services.
• Work with infrastructure teams to keep systems stable and running smoothly.
• Contribute improvements that reduce operational risks and technical debt.

Qualifications
1. Experience

• 2–4 years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Experience working with production systems.
• Experience maintaining or improving large codebases is a strong plus.
• Experience working with distributed systems or background job pipelines is a bonus.

2. Technical Skills

• Strong experience with Python backend development.
• Experience building and maintaining REST APIs.
• Good understanding of PostgreSQL and query optimization.
• Experience with Apache Kafka or other messaging/streaming systems.
• Experience working with Elasticsearch or similar search platforms.
• Familiarity with Redis for caching or background job infrastructure.
• Basic understanding of containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Comfortable debugging issues in Linux production environments.

3. Soft Skills

• Strong problem-solving ability.
• Comfortable debugging complex production issues.
• Clear communication and documentation skills.
• Able to work independently while collaborating with a team.
