Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Substantial writing, editorial, and audio-visual skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in writing and editing content, including but not limited to news and feature articles; scripts for audio-visual projects; speeches and op-eds; social media content; and marketing materials.
  • Proficient in writing and editing in English and/or Filipino.
  • Substantial experience in videography and photography; advanced videography and photography skills an advantage.
  • Experience or interest in writing about specialized topics is a major advantage. Specialized topics preferred are arts & culture and science (STEM).
  • Substantial track record in working in events and special projects.
  • Up-to-date grasp and effective use of tools for special projects.
  • Adept at communicating to and liaising with a range of stakeholders and audiences, both internal and external to an organization.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Working knowledge of communications tools
  • Proficient in using website Content Management Systems (CMS); basic knowledge of coding (HTML, CSS) is an advantage.
  • Proficient in using social media channels such as, but not limited to, Facebook; X (Twitter); LinkedIn; YouTube; Instagram; and Tiktok.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Must be at ease with collaborating and communicating with teammates, internal and external partners, and the public.
  • Proficient in Mac/Windows OS, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365. Proficiency in using audio-visual editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is an advantage.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is the required minimum, preferably a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Fine/Multimedia Arts, or any related field. If not a graduate of communications-related degree, professional experience in marketing, communications, events management, or related fields can be considered.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, media production, journalism, public relations and/or related professions with demonstrated skills in marketing, communications, social media, and/or events management.
  • Higher education, teaching, and/or work experience in Ateneo de Manila University (most relevant) or in another Philippine Jesuit educational institution

Minimum Qualifications

Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities

  1. The Communications Officer (CO) is responsible for day-to-day creation and curation of content and the execution of marketing and communications projects.
  2. Reporting directly to the Digital Communications Head, the Communications Officer does this by ensuring that the marketing and communications plans projects are implemented in a timely, strategic, and efficient manner, in support of the institution's strategic goals and in line with Ateneo de Manila's mission and identity.
  3. This position can be a general Communications Officer, or can also be specifically assigned to focus on either Content Creation or Special Projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. For Content Creation: Creates and curates content for the University's digital communications channels and assets.
    • Creates timely, accurate, and compelling content for the University’s various communications platforms.
    • Ensures that major events and activities are properly published and promoted on appropriate platforms.
    • Participates in brainstorming and planning of content, materials, and other marketing and communications projects at the institutional/central administration level (e.g. University celebrations, institutional/historical content, national holidays), and with the Higher/Basic Education Marketing and Communications Officers (HEMCO/BEMCO), for the respective clusters.
    • Manages queries on Ateneo’s public chat and email channels under UMCO, replying and/or assigning/forwarding to the appropriate personnel or office such queries.
    • Recommends improvements or tweaks to content, processes, and policies based on review of the performance of the digital communications platforms.
  2. For Special Projects: Supports marketing and communications projects and programs under University Marketing and Communications.
    • Supports the planning, delivery, and evaluation of special marketing and communications events and projects of UMCO. Includes logistical organization, scheduling, event administration, protocol implementation (for events with VIPs), communications, and post-event evaluation/follow-up.
    • Working with the Creative Services team or as assigned by the immediate supervisor, coordinates with external partners/suppliers regarding logistical organization of special events/projects.
    • Working with the internal client and/or the assigned UMC staff , ensures that internal processes and permits (e.g. campus access, location/venue reservations) are in order.
    • Recommends improvements or tweaks to processes and policies based on review of concluded events/special projects.
  3. Acts as a partner to offi ces and staff across the University for marketing and communications needs.
    • Coordinates with the UMC team regarding digital communications content, strategy, and policy implementation.
    • Advises, assists, and supports clients and partners within Ateneo de Manila in their marketing and communications needs, based on their specific need/s and audience/s.
    • Collaborates with internal University clients (e.g. offices, projects, etc) and other stakeholders in creating creative and compelling content for the University’s various digital and non-digital communications platforms and needs.
  4. Other Tasks and Responsibilities
    • Creates other types of content for various communication platforms or purposes, in connection with the day-to-day tasks of the University Marketing and Communications office. These include assisting offices and administrators with speeches, scripts, and public relations materials, and other content creation tasks.
    • Performs other duties as may be required by the Immediate Supervisor or authorized representative.
