Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities:
The Investment Head leads the execution, monitoring, and analysis of the University’s current investment portfolios, ensuring adherence to approved investment policies and financial risk management guidelines.
The role supports the Investment Director through performance analysis, risk monitoring, and the preparation of recommendations and investment instructions, and serves as the primary liaison between the University and external portfolio managers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Investment Portfolio Management
- Leads the execution, monitoring, and analysis of the University’s investment programs by tracking portfolio performance, managing risks, and providing recommendations and regular performance reports to the Investment Director to support decision-making
- Manages, maintains, and continuously improves the accuracy of investment trackers and dashboards reflecting the University’s current investment status, ensuring data integrity, consistency of reporting frameworks, and alignment with approved investment and reporting standards
- Translates investment performance data and risk information into clear, decision-useful insights for internal stakeholders to support informed management and Committee discussions
- Compliance and Risk Monitoring
- Oversees and monitors the adherence of domestic and foreign portfolio managers to portfolio guidelines, investment instructions, asset allocation limits, and guidance ranges
- Reviews and validates portfolio data from external portfolio managers to ensure accuracy before submission to the Investment Director and presentation to the Investment Sub-Committee and/or Finance & Budget Committee
- Evaluates the credit and investment exposures of the portfolios to ensure it stays within approved limits
- Investment Opportunities
- Sources, evaluates, and recommends investment opportunities, including those referred/proposed to the University by portfolio managers, for the approval of the Investment Director
- Supports the Investment Director in reviewing investment management agreements and analyzing fee structure by providing recommendations to ensure cost-effectiveness
- Leads investment research by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing data on current and prospective investment opportunities, incorporating ESG-aligned criteria such as environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance practices, for the Director’s review
- Prepares and endorses a recommendation to invest in new issuers of stocks and bonds as needed for submission to and endorsement of the Director, prior to submission to the Investment Sub-Committee for approval
- Investment Operations Relations
- Leads relationship management with the external portfolio managers to enhance project delivery and outcomes
- Coordinates relevant Committee meetings with external portfolio managers, ensuring schedule alignment and that all required arrangements and materials are in place
- Section Management Support
- Supports the Investment Director in implementing the approved investment direction and operational goals, ensuring alignment with University strategy and Board-approved investment policies
- Manages the performance of direct report/s by setting standards/targets, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and providing development opportunities
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor, or any authorized representative
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Market Knowledge: Familiar with domestic and global bond and stock markets, interest rate movements, and currency fluctuations, particularly USD:PhP
- Capital Market Understanding: Solid understanding of financial and capital markets and how market movements and structures influence investment performance
- Financial Systems Proficiency: Skilled in using Bloomberg and other financial software for investment research, analysis, monitoring, and reporting
- Quantitative Analysis: Extensive knowledge of statistical models and analytical techniques, with practical application to performance analysis, risk assessment, and investment decision-making
- Business and Financial Judgment: Ability to apply sound business and financial judgment in evaluating investment data, risks, and trade-offs, and in formulating well-reasoned recommendations
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized, structured, and logical in managing data, tasks, and investment processes across multiple portfolios
- Operations and Control: Demonstrates strong attention to operational rigor, data accuracy, compliance requirements, and timely escalation of issues in managing investment processes.
- Technological Savvy: Advanced proficiency in productivity tools such as MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and statistical/financial software for modeling and trend analysis
- Influencing and Negotiation: Capable of influencing internal and external stakeholders and supporting negotiations through data-driven analysis, clear communication, and sound recommendations.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners
- Leadership and People Management Skills: Demonstrates effective supervisory and people management skills, including setting work standards, providing coaching and feedback, and ensuring quality and timely execution of team deliverables.
- Presentation Skills: Ability to prepare and clearly explain investment data, performance analyses, and risk information to internal stakeholders and committees to support informed discussions and decision-making.
