We’re looking for a Hardware Engineer to lead the next generation of hardware innovation at Nafas – Indonesia’s air quality and environmental technology company.
You’ll be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and production of embedded systems in our air quality and smart device ecosystem. This role involves both deep technical work and cross-functional leadership across product, operations, and supply chain teams. You’ll take ownership of migrating from legacy MCU platforms to ESP, supporting procurement for production, and ensuring the reliability of devices through mass manufacturing.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute hardware design and development, with focus on ESP32 platform integration and firmware collaboration.
- Oversee the transition and re-platforming of legacy devices to modern microcontroller architecture.
- Manage full product lifecycle from prototyping to mass production of consumer devices (thousands of units).
- Collaborate with firmware, software, and backend teams to ensure seamless system integration.
- Own and drive factory collaboration, from DFM (Design for Manufacturing) review to creating testing protocols, factory bring-up, and QA validation.
- Provide technical support during field installations, hardware servicing, and issue resolution.
- Conduct component research, BOM management, and work with procurement on vendor selection and sourcing strategies.
- Develop SOPs and checklists for QC/QA, hardware validation, and release management.
- Document hardware revisions and maintain engineering archives.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering culture.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Mechatronics. A Master’s degree is a plus.
-
Minimum 5 years of experience in hardware or electronics engineering, including at least 2 years of leading hardware development projects.
-
Proven experience in developing and launching hardware products at scale, including production of thousands of retail-grade consumer devices.
-
Solid experience in microcontroller-based systems, especially with ESP32/ESP8266 (experience migrating from older MCUs is a must).
-
Proficiency in embedded C/C++, and familiarity with FreeRTOS, Espressif IDF, or Arduino framework.
-
Skilled in reading, creating, and debugging schematics and multi-layer PCB layouts (using KiCad, Altium Designer, Eagle, etc.).
-
Experience with hardware debugging and validation using lab equipment: oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter.
-
Strong understanding of communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, BLE, Wi-Fi).
-
Experience working with factories and contract manufacturers, including creating and reviewing manufacturing test procedures, test jigs, and ensuring QC/QA compliance.
-
Familiar with procurement, BOM optimization, and component lifecycle management (EOL risk mitigation, sourcing, etc.).
-
Ability to create detailed documentation, from block diagrams to revision control logs and production packs.
