We’re seeking a skilled Software Developer Assistant with strong technical and data operations experience to support our engineering and product teams. This is a remote role, working directly with our CTO and Head of AI on projects that impact higher education worldwide.

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Software Developer Assistant who can bridge engineering execution and operational excellence. You’ll work closely with leadership to implement monitoring, dashboards, and lightweight engineering improvements — with the freedom to bring your own ideas and solutions to life.

What You’ll Do

Observability & Monitoring

• Design and manage an observability stack that correlates logs, metrics, and system events.
• Implement structured logging in Python and build pipelines for aggregation and analysis.
• Maintain monitoring tools such as Grafana, CloudWatch, Loki, and Elasticsearch, while experimenting with Datadog.

Dashboards & Business Intelligence

• Expand and refine business and cost monitoring dashboards.
• Create BI dashboards (Metabase, Superset, or similar) that track user behavior, product usage, and infrastructure costs.
• Integrate multiple data sources (including MongoDB) to deliver actionable insights.

Engineering Support

• Improve and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for deployments to AWS and Vercel.
• Make targeted improvements in our Python codebase (monitoring hooks, logging improvements, and data collection integrations).
• Support the team in embedding observability and monitoring best practices across workflows.

Collaboration & Strategy

• Contribute ideas during engineering discussions and provide technical input.
• Work directly with the Head of AI and CTO on strategic projects.
• Document processes, share learnings, and help improve overall product performance.

Core Skills

• 3–5 years of experience in a software development, DevOps, or technical assistant role.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Solid experience working with MongoDB (queries, data structuring, optimization).
• Strong English communication skills (written and spoken).

Monitoring & Observability

• Experience with AI observability tools (e.g. LangSmith).
• Familiarity with CI/CD (GitHub Actions), AWS deployments, and error tracking (e.g. Sentry).
• Self-driven, resourceful, and passionate about applying technology to improve higher education.

  Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with structured logging and log aggregation pipelines.
  • Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools (Grafana, CloudWatch, Loki, Elasticsearch, Datadog).
  • Ability to design observability systems that connect logs, metrics, and server statistics
  • Skilled at creating dashboards for business data, usage, and cost monitoring.
  • Experience with Grafana and ideally at least one BI tool (Metabase, Superset, or similar).
